COOKERY WORKSHOPS AT GUARDSWELL FARM

You learn to cook so that you don't have to be a slave to recipes.

You get what's in season and you know what to do with it.

Julia Child

Learning to cook is one of the most fulfilling, joyful and practically useful skills that you can have in life. The ability to look in a pantry, to walk around a farmers market or stroll a garden and turn kohl rabi and chard, rabbit and rack of hogget, wild garlic and rhubarb into a meal to nourish yourself or your family, is unrivalled (those ingredients are obviously not one recipe… but perhaps its a nice challenge!).

Cooking simply, using what is growing in your area at that time of year (locally and seasonally), and learning to preserve those ingredients for the leaner months- they are all skills that we hold to be some of our most valued.

Anna- Team Guardswell- was fortunate enough to study at the world renowned cookery school just outside Cork, Ballymaloe. A food philosophy rooted in cooking only the best of ingredients, in the simplest of fashions, using ingredients local to the school. This is a passion and criteria brought back to Guardswell Farm- and we are eager to ensure that given our fortunate position as a farm, with a venue, and kitted out kitchen- that we should try and pass on a few of those skills and a little of the knowledge.

We are also keen to work with incredible chefs and cooks- who feel as passionately about the people behind the ingredients as they do about the ingredients themselves. And further more- beyond excited to be extending the hand of learning to our wonderful guests and visitors to the farm. This year, we will be hosting a small number of cookery workshops in the Steading- cooking with our own Guardswell produce, learning about and cooking sustainable seafood, a little herb masterclass, even fresh pasta!

We’d love to cook with you on the farm.
